Staff Software Engineer

JOB OVERVIEW:
We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to be the technical anchor for our Engineering team at SalesIntel — a deeply hands-on individual contributor who sets the architecture everyone else builds against. This is a pure IC role: your impact comes from the systems you design and the code you write, not from managing people.

You will define how our services are structured, how our APIs are designed and governed, how our search performs at scale, and how our data layer holds up under load — then stay close enough to the code to prove those decisions work in production.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Own the architecture for the team — service boundaries, API contracts, data models, and the standards that keep a growing codebase coherent at scale.
• Design and operate high-scale search — indexing, relevance, and predictable low latency as volume and traffic grow.
• Design our APIs and the controls around them: clean contracts, versioning, rate limiting, throttling, and quotas.
• Drive the database layer — schema design, query performance, indexing, partitioning, and capacity planning for heavy workloads.
• Lead our most complex, cross-cutting initiatives, staying deeply hands-on: writing and reviewing production code and prototyping the hard parts yourself.
• Pay down systemic technical debt and reliability risks before they become incidents.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews and pairing, raising the bar on testing, operability, and system design.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

• 7+ years of software engineering experience owning large, ambiguous systems from design through production. Depth and impact matter more than years.
• Strong, proven architecture capability — you define the boundaries, data models, and standards others build on.
• Deep expertise in backend development with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience designing and operating high-scale search — indexing, relevance, and low-latency query performance under load.
• Extensive API design experience, including the operational controls that keep APIs healthy: rate limiting, throttling, quotas, and abuse prevention.
• Deep database expertise — schema design, query optimization, indexing, partitioning, and capacity planning for high-volume workloads.
• Strong distributed systems fundamentals, with a bias toward staying close to the code.
• Hands-on experience building and operating services on AWS.
• A plus: experience building agentic systems — LLM-driven workflows, tool/function calling, orchestration, or MCP-style integrations.

Success Metrics

In your first 6–12 months you’ll have taken ownership of the core layer — search performance, API scale, and the data layer — delivered a materially more scalable and reliable system across it, and established the architectural standards the team builds against.
